Interview with Laura Swisher!

Matt Hartley, from Lockergnome [ http://www.lockergnome.com/ ] recently had the pleasure of interviewing Laura Swisher, of Comedy Central’s Premium Blend and TechTV’s Unscrewed fame. They chat about Laura’s career, Unscrewed, life at TechTV, and that contest where potential viewers could “win a date” with Laura Swisher.

All that and more; click to read all about it:

New The Broken Content Coming in March

According to Kevin Rose on his own blog;

us fans of TheBroken, located at TheBroken.org [ http://www.thebroken.org/ ] can look forward to some deliciously new geeky techy content coming in March. If my hunch is right, it’ll essentially be everything that G4 won’t allow Kevin to put on the air on The Screen Savers, probably because it’s too intelligent or doesn’t fit the niche market of airheaded gamers (and note I say airheaded gamers, because most gamers are far too smart to fall for G4’s brand of tripe) and what they think everyone wants to see.

Well, with some luck, hopefully this’ll turn out well. It looks like Kevin really wants to turn this into a full on produced net-tv deal, so we’ll have to see where he goes from here. My only worry is that eventually he’ll go subscription-based or something like that, and people will have to pay a fee to see the goodness, keeping most of us on the outside. Here’s to hoping he’ll just keep selling TheBroken swag and other goodies and keep the main course free for those of us who really are interested.

Kevin Rose’s CES Faves

Kevin thanks everyone for being patient while waiting for his CES coverage, but sheesh, in my opinion he’s pretty quick out of the gate with some picks and faves and reviews from his experience there-especially since he’s up there at the Macworld Expo as we speak. Maybe I’m just impressed because he beat me to my own CES roundup and review, but he’s got the edge since he was actually THERE.

Anyway, on to Kevin’s fine reporting. Thanks Kevin!

Kevin Pereira Has a Blog!

Kevin P, the newest co-host of The Screen Savers and co-host of Arena, looks like he’s gone and started a new blog! Not much there right now save a few amusing entries, some downloadable goodies for Half-Life 2 and an awesome video, and of course, a link to his moblog where he’s playing with the oh-so-delicious PSP, not due out in the United States until around March, if I’m not mistaken.

Either way, it looks like Kevin P is on the blogging bandwagon, and my guess is that he’ll be looking for submissions and commentary on the show in his comments sections as well, right? Go take a look:

Laura Swisher Has a Blog!

The Swish herself has made a net appearance! Happily blogging over at Blogspot, Laura Swisher (of Unscrewed and Comedy Central fame) is blogging regularly and giving us insight into the world of blogs, dogs, and gyms. Seriously though, she is-as always-a trip, and worth adding to your daily reads. I have, and you can always get a link to her blog on the sidebar under “TTV Staff” just to the right. But in case you’re lazy, here’s the link:

But for the whole experience, enter through her .com; it’s way more fun that way, and it contains links to her moblog, tons of photos, and more!

Dan Huard: Life as a TechTV/G4 Employee

Dan Huard, who just launched his successful site a few weeks ago and is looking to be a tech writer and columnist in his own regard (best of luck Dan, we’ll keep an eye on ya) finally gets to sitting down and answering the questions that everyone’s been plaguing him with: “What was it like at G4/TechTV?” From top to bottom, Dan paints us a portrait of doing a job he loves and enjoyed getting up in the morning for, and the gradual slide and decline from the TechTV that we all knew and loved to the tripe that sits on that same channel now. He explains what was really happening behind the scenes, and to be honest, between this and Wil Wheaton’s escapades below, I’m impressed that the G4 management would be so duplicitous in decieving their viewers and audiences-tricks like using G4 staff, friends, and family only signal a network that’s not big enough to fit the britches they wish they had, and yet refuses to eat their vegetables, if you catch my drift. If not, just read: Dan’s an excellent writer.

Wil Wheaton Explains, “Why I Quit G4”

Good old Wil Wheaton, the guy that some of us were hoping would take the reins of TSS or any of the new merged G4TTV programming, explains why he left his position as head writer for Arena (they had writers? go figure!) and, like so many ex-G4 personalities, gives us a peek into the incompetency that is G4: TV for Gamers. Love it, love it, and thanks to Wil Wheaton for taking the time to write out his experiences on Slashdot; I was hoping that maybe he could breathe some sanity into the establishment, but it’s obvious that even with a chorus of sanity, not only will G4 not listen, but they’ll target the sane and lay them off.

Good to see Wil got out before they found a cheap reason to axe him. Read all about it over at his Slashdot journal.

Evan (samureye) Interviews Joey “The Intern” from Unscrewed!

A hilarious session, no doubt. Evan (samureye), a member of the Long Live TechTV YahooGroup and tech writer in his own regard, had the opportunity to interview Joey “The Intern,” formerly of Unscrewed fame, which was recently canned by G4 management for reasons they leave vauge and see fit to let the fan community wonder about. Either way, the interview itself gives us a peek into G4’s management and staff, and what they wound up doing to our beloved Unscrewed before they up and canceled it, not to mention an up-close-and-personal chat with Joey himself! Great work Evan, thanks!

Becky Worley & Roger Chang On KMAX’s Good Day Sacramento

Two people we desperately miss after The Fall are definitely Becky Worley and Roger Chang; and when we got word on the Long Live TechTV YahooGroup that the two of them would be making an appearance on Sacramento’s KMAX program “Good Day Sacramento,” we were thrilled! The program aired on Dec. 26th, and in Becky Worley’s own words:

Just wanted to let you know that Roger Chang and I are doing some computer segments on the morning of Sunday,
December 26th- It’s intended to be kinda like the old call-for-help-a-thon. We’re going to be on KMAX in Sacramento: “Good
Morning Sacramento.”

Sound completely random? you’re right! An old friend/producer from TechLive is now the E.P. at KMAX
(Brandon Mercer) and is desperate for some help and content on a slow news day. I figure it’s always good
to help someone in distress- cause then they owe you, FOR LIFE!”

Becky! Man, I miss seeing her on TV. You can watch the video of their day-after-Christmas TV appearance right here, look for “Becky Worley’s Tech Report.” Could this be a regular thing? We can only hope!

Quickie: Morgan Webb

The X-Play site was recently updated with a quick interview with everyone’s favorite gamer girl and co-host of X-Play (and of course, those of us who really know our stuff remember her from her blonde days on The Screen Savers), Morgan Webb!

It’s not much to get excited about, just a quick Q and A that gives fans a peek into the mind of the mysterious Morgan Webb, who only seems to update her blog every 9 months or so (what’s up with that, Morgan? Ah well, you probably have better things to do) and has spawned such fansites as I Heart Morgan Webb, and tha rampant posting of her photo shoots that appeared in Maxim and FHM everywhere on the net. Anyway, questions include her favorite X-Play ep, and why she loves Tokyo so much:

ScreenSavers Desktops

I know, I know, we all miss the old cast and crew of The Screen Savers, but now you can have them on your desktop! This one was passed along by a member of the Long Live TechTV Yahoogroup a while ago, and it’s only fitting to share! Now you can have Pat, Leo, Sarah, Yoshi, Megan, Morgan, Kevin, Jessica, or Martin on your desktop (or the entire crew) sitting right behind your windows reminding you that you too can solve those computer problems!

The desktops were done by Dan Heiss, who runs Venis Productions, [ http://www.venisproductions.com/ ] an art and production studio that has a ton of really good comics, games, music, and more on their site! When you snag your favorite desktop and wallpaper it, make sure to stick around the site and read some comic archives, kill some time watching movies, or even drop Dan a line to tell him how much you appreciate his keeping his work online. If you really like, he says he’s available for freelance art and design, so somebody hire him and pay him lots of moneyhats. Thanks Dan!
