TWiT Soundboard

Were you wondering where Leo got those Dvorak sounds for the TWiT episode where Dvorak wasn’t there? So was I! And now I know:

UPDATE: // This link is dead. Try this one! [ http://techtainment.net/images/twitsb.swf ]

The TWiT Soundboard! Amazing quotes from Dvorak like “Nah,” and “Ah..uhm…I don’t remember all the details,” and other tidbits like Patrick saying “Someone is breathing really heavily..it’s kinda hot,” and “Eat rocket, weasel!” Not to mention some of Leo’s best quotes, like “G4 eats it’s young” and “I go to Canada to steal my music,” all of which are totally out of context, naturally. But hey, it’s fun!

Check it out, a lot of em got laughs out of me!

Command-N // Episode 6

You know what to do!

I think it’s pretty cool that there’s that built-in viewer over at the Command-N website (which is very attractive after the facelift, by the way) that you can use to watch the movie in-browser, but of course if you want the goodness of good compression and video quality, you’ve gotta download. And speaking of download, Episode 6 is up! This week Amber and Mikey take on Leo in an anything-goes battle to the finish (read: Leo guest stars on this episode) and they chat up podcasting among other topics. Go take a look!

DiggNation // Episode 3

DiggNation is also out of the gate with a new podcast; and I forgot to mention last time that even though they have video episodes available for download, I didn’t link em! I’ll start linking the video downloads as well so everyone has access to those as well, but if you missed the first couple of episodes in video format, head over to DiggNation [ http://www.diggnation.com/ ] and download em in high-quality Quicktime format.

In this episode they talk about that absolutely hot Optimus Keyboard that’s been all over the web (in case you haven’t see, check it out: http://www.artlebedev.com/portfolio/optimus/), the dual view LCD display, Odeo, and finally! Proof that the Ionic Breeze air purifier is total crap!

I’m going to download it right now-you should too:

This Week In Tech [TWIT] // Episode 14

Another fresh podcast to begin the week, the TWIT guys have episode 14 up and ready to go! This might be the beginning of a trend, hopefully, of getting the podcasts up and ready first thing Monday mornings again. Okay okay, I’m kidding-I’m not nearly as miffed as some of the folks who were riled up when the casts came out a day or two late, but I’m still glad to wake up on Monday morning and have a fresh TWIT to start this Monday morning with!

This week’s topics include John C. Dvorak’s pundilicious return to the TWIT cast (which is a mixed blessing depending on how you feel about Dvorak), Google hacks, Google Earth hacks, all the things we love about Google, IBM finally giving up the ghost on OS/2, Microsoft’s newest mistake in Longhorn-I mean their new monitor-based DRM, and the lack of Space Shuttle launch last week, and much much more! And besides, if Dvorak is in the mix, then you know there’ll be lots of talking. Enjoy!

Weezy and THE SWISH, and a Comment Reminder

Sorry about the title guys in the episode 5 link, I had “Weezy and the Switch,” which goes to show you how tired I was when I wrote the entry. It’s corrected now!

Also, thanks, “c4hfan,” or might I say danderson72@gmail.com or might I say IP Address ” 24.176.43.137″ for being a royal ass and commenting twice “it’s Weezy and The Swish, jackasses!”

First time he was nice, second time he tried to hide behind a bunch of question marks and called me a jackass. Suffice to say he’s more than banned, and this is why all the comments are moderated-so trash like him can’t post. If you don’t see your comment at first, it’ll appear after it’s been approved in the moderation queue. Remember, the information you fill out in the comment is stored as well as your IP address, so trying to hide behind fake name and email address won’t save you.

So thanks, jackass, for giving me the opportunity to point this out. Why don’t all of you real TechTVForever Fans go tell danderson72@gmail.com what the real deal is, and who’s the jackass around here! 🙂

Man Arrested for Accessing Wi-Fi Network

This could turn out to be an interesting case, although I’m sure it’ll probably just die quickly as all parties probably just want the commotion to end, but a Florida man was arrested under a little-known and little used statute forbidding people from accessing other peoples’ wireless networks without their permission.

It would have been one thing if the guy had broken the network’s WEP key and broken into the guy’s network, but this was an open, unencrypted network where the SSID was being broadcast all over the cul-de-sac. It’s raised some serious questions about the legality of using someone’s network when it’s wide open like that, and whether ignorance of how to secure a network is protected by the law; most technology analysts don’t believe so-if you decide to buy a wireless router and set up a wireless home network, it’s your responsibility to either leave it open and know what you’re doing, or learn how to close it and secure it properly. Unfortunately, wireless routers don’t come with security instructions. Read more:

DiggNation // Episode 2

Diggnation comes out of the gate strong with a new podcast this week; their second episode is out and ready to be downloaded; and might I also mention that diggnation isn’t all about the audio; they do video as well! The diggnation video episode 1 is available to download as well!

All this and more at the new diggnation website [ http://www.diggnation.com/ ] where you can get the notes from the most recent podcast and a link to download. This week’s podcast includes stories like “The world according to livejournal,” “How to save nearly any multimedia file from the web,” and commentary on the man who was arrested for “stealing” wi-fi from an unsecured and open access point. Check it out!

This Week In Tech [TWIT] // Episode 12

Looks like Pat managed to get the most recent TWiT up! A welcome respite from other events in the news today, I can say that with complete confidence. And no sooner than the new TWiT is up than we have our mirror up and running as well! Not that you really need it anymore, now with their partnership with AOL Radio, you can direct download the torrent if you dig bittorrent, or you can direct download the mp3 from them at pretty good download speeds! I gave it a shot to get the copy you’re about to get, and I was impressed. So now you have even more options, and options are a wonderful thing!

Anyway, this week’s topics include HDTV envy, some awesome free backup software (and we all know everyone needs to back up their files, right?), and more! On with the downloads!

Command-N // Episode 4

The most recent episode of Command-N is available for your viewing pleasure! Despite the Command-N website being down sporadically over the past several days (apparently they exceeded their bandwidth significantly) Amber and Mikey are working to get the site locked down, keep providing the content they’ve been producing, and through it all have managed to get their most recent episode recorded and ready for viewing! DiggNation // Episode 1

Sheesh. No sooner than I find out that Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht are doing a podcast in the first place do they push out their first episode! The Digg Podcast, named DiggNation, is off and away, and ready for your downloading pleasure!

Digg, [ http://digg.com/ ] is Kevin Rose’s baby, a community-managed news and technology site, if you haven’t discovered it yet. The Digg FAQ state more simply that Digg is ” a technology news website that gives editorial control back to the community. Most technology websites allow users to suggest content by submitting links or stories to an editor. If the editor believes the story to be relevant to the masses, he or she moves the story to the homepage. With digg, users also submit links for review. But rather than allowing an editor to decide which links go on the homepage, the users do.”

Pretty swanky, huh? Well DiggNation will cover in depth some of the most dugg stories at Digg.com, and an array of other technology news and events. It’s fun to see Alex and Kevin back in the saddle again, and I’m sure they make for more than an amusing pair; and with this being Kevin’s 3rd major internet media venture, he’s making himself out to be quite the net personality! Anyway, enough chatter, on with the download!

File Sharing Services Can Be Sued, Says SCOTUS

If you haven’t been paying attention, yesterday the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) decided that file sharing services and companies that have been operating and encouraging their users to illegally share and download copyrighted material over their networks can be sued by the music and movie industry for “damages” caused by the users on their networks. The high court came to this decision 9 to 0; or unanimously.

A sad day for technology, and while usually I have a little faith in the Supreme Court to make decisions central to the people and the advance of the people’s goodwill, in this case I find that this is likely just another example of people making decisions about technology and the law without any knowledge of technology. I fear that this will stifle communications and collaboration technology and put so much fear into technology companies that as soon as their technology is discovered to have a remote, possible use that could run contrary to our Draconian copyright laws, the lawyers of the entertainment industry will descend and rip those companies to shreds. The only technology that’ll be allowed will be that approved by the industry; but that doesn’t mean we won’t see good technology (think iTunes, for example), it just means we’ll see a slowdown of innovation and more companies looking over their shoulder than looking at how they can improve their product or service their customers.

Regardless, that’s just my opinion; you can read more details of the decision and come up with your own! Wired has the scoop:

Weezy and the Swish // Episode 3

Weezy and the Swish have their newest podcast up and ready for download; it was available yesterday, so the clamor has likely died down a little bit and you can go grab it whenever you like. Gear up for another bout of hilarity with Louise Palanker (Weezy) and Laura Swisher (Da Swish); Matt Hartley was at Gnomedex for this episode, but apparently he had a stunt double in his place, so the hilarity continues. Command-N // Episode 3

Looks like Amber and Mikey are at it again producing their weekly web and tech related video show, and Epsiode 3 is out and ready for download. Would have told you guys sooner, but I just got off a plane, so I’m catching up with all the tech-news! But don’t take my excuses, you want to download the videos, right? Of course you do!

According to Amber, this week’s episode was shot on a ferris wheel, so that should be interesting to say the least, but hopefully not as interesting as the content!

Command-N has it’s own website now, where you can get the most recent episode in both bittorrent and direct download methods; go check it out, Episode 4(rather, Episode 3 since they started calling it Command-N) is up now!
